is No Stranger to Community Involvement

In keeping with the spirit of giving and sharing with the holidays this past year, Twin City Realty came up with an idea to roll out a new program for 2011 that would enable them to make a difference in the community.

Each quarter of the year, a non-profit organization would be selected.  Each month in that quarter, a small portion of the tenants rent would be withdrawn and a donation made to that select charity.

This quarter, the donation was made on behalf of the tenants at the following shopping centers:

Twin City Shopping Center: Bob’s Store, Hannaford Supermarket, Buffalo Wild Wings, Kim’s Cleaners, Ameriprise Financial, Aspen Dental, Visionary Eye Care, Weight Watchers, Quest Diagnostics, Rent-a-Center, Yamato Japan, Citi Financial, Comcast, Golden Nails, Verizon Wireless, Miracle Ear, Gordon Music, Upscale Consignmint, Hair Excitement, Planet Fitness, Cosmo Prof, Kappy’s Liquors, Sherwin Williams, Singapore, Boston Market, Workers Credit Union, Uno Chicago Grill, Remax, Geronimo Properties, Protector Group, Hackler Insurance and BT Heinzer and Associates.

Johnny Appleseed: Cutie Patuties, Lidio’s Restaurant, Dunkin Donuts, Dandini Liquors, US Tae Kwon Do, Vienient Food mart, Athen’s Pizza, Hair Xotica, Kacio Drycleaners and Ultra Wash

Warmer Winters of Leominster was selected as the 1st Quarter 2011 recipient.

Warmer Winters is a grassroots organization of volunteers who knit in their homes a variety of Winter garments including hats, scarves, mittens, sweaters and Afghans. These items are donated to homeless people and other neighbors in need within our community.

Twin City Shopping Center and Johnny Appleseed Plaza are managed by Geronimo Properties of Leominster.  Geronimo Properties specializes in developing, leasing, and managing retail and commercial properties in North Central Massachusetts, Geronimo Properties is one of the area’s largest commercial real estate companies, serving national, regional, and local clients with over 500,000 square feet of leasable space throughout the region.

Geronimo Properties and Twin City feel strongly about giving back to the community. The team believes that when you give, you receive back in unimaginable ways.

Twin City and Johnny Appleseed tenants are openly receptive to the new program and have expressed their optimism in this new approach.   Both properties will continue this effort to give back.

This quarter’s charity will be The Shine Initiative.

The Fitchburg Sprint Store, also known to many as the Cell Phone Store, is located at 30 John Fitch Highway in Fitchburg  The business is owned and operated by entrepreneur Robert Brandzen.  The business will celebrate their 6th year of business in August 2011.

The Fitchburg Sprint Store is a premium retailer of the HC Evo 4G, and the Samsung Epic 4G. Both products are the latest Android devices and offer complete unlimited data.  The store also offers other Sprint wireless phones and accessories, as well as a repair center.

Robert first began working in the wireless industry in 1999.  He worked as a sales person at one of Nextel’s Authorized Preferred Retailer headquarters.  After working for the company for nearly six years, and providing extraordinary customer service, Robert was approached by the Franchise President and was offered an opportunity to own his own store.

Together they researched the market, looking for existing Sprint Nextel stores and decided to settle in North Central Massachusetts.   The store originally opened on Summer Street in Fitchburg in August 2005.  When the opportunity became available in April 2008, they relocated to their existing location at 30 John Fitch Highway.

Roberts plan is to ensure that every customer that enters the store with a question or concern, leaves happy.  Robert has worked diligently to instill that way of thinking into his employees.

When asked if Robert had any advice for someone starting out in business, he said, “find a great location, hire loyal, productive employees, and invest the time and money into your employees so that they have the tools to perform well. Most importantly, make sure that you treat every single customer as if they are your only customer.  Without customers, you have no business.”

Robert is committed to growing his business by continuing to provide exceptional service to his existing and future customers.

5 Ways to Increase Foot Traffic to Your Business

5 Ways to Increase Foot Traffic to Your Store

1. Have a grand opening. Planning on opening a business in the near future? Change Management? Make day one as big a deal as possible. Provide food, offer door prizes, and serve up other enticements and entertainment to make the day memorable. Once people arrive, you should collect their names and addresses or ask for their business cards.

2. Make your business newsworthy. Foot traffic on the day of an event is one thing. Attracting business beyond that 24-hour window is something else again. That’s why it’s important to leverage media whenever possible. For instance, donating a portion of the day’s take to charity can win a flattering article in your local newspaper. Taking a completely different tack, investigate whether a radio station would be willing to broadcast live on the day of your promotional event. The key is to grab the attention of customers who can’t make it in at that particular time.

3. Have a sale. Old fashioned? Maybe. Still, nothing beats the lure of something that’s less expensive for a limited amount of time. And, while the idea of a sale may seem a bit blasé to some, technological advances have made sales events more potent than ever before. For example, if you maintain a database of customers, contact them via an e-mail newsletter to let them know of upcoming sales events and other promotions. To further boost foot traffic, urge them to pass along your e-mail to others. That’s not only effective but exceedingly cost efficient, as you’re not dropping money on mass mailings that only saturates the uninterested. Offers that come with a sense of urgency are always effective to get customers to come to stores.

5. Follow up with your contacts. Even the best-planned promotional event is of little import if you fail to leverage the initial contact. Keep encouraging foot traffic by staying in touch with customers. Let them know about events that may otherwise attract little attention. Encourage them to pass along the news with friends and neighbors. A great event is only half the battle.  If you want consistent foot traffic, you have to follow up, then follow up some more. Send them offers, special announcements or anything you can think of to get them into your store.

6. Emphasize customer service. One advantage that a bricks-and-mortar store has over mail-order and Internet competitors is a personal relationship with customers. Special events can be terrific in building foot traffic, but what keeps customers coming back – and spreading the good word as they do – is the product knowledge and enthusiasm that can only be conveyed face to face. Things may be cheaper on the Web or via the post office, but getting to know your customers and what they value can trump those handicaps. And, in turn, can build a steady stream of foot traffic for the long haul.

Tenant of the Month

A Cut Above at HairXotica

Tenant of the Month

HairXotica, located at 1011 Central Street, within the Johnny Appleseed Plaza, is owned and operated by James Schneider and Marie Mello of Leominster.

James and MJ worked together previously at a local salon and hit it off right away.  After several years of teamwork, they developed a great friendship with each other, a loyal client base and realized that the two of them had something in common.  Both James and MJ had a drive to succeed and wanted to work at a place where they could make every client feel welcomed and special.

The Salon came to life in 2005.  James and MJ recall trying to come up with a name for the salon that was original and catchy, different but memorable.  Originally they came up with HairErotica but later decided it was to vulgar and changed it to HairXotica.

HairXotica offers a variety of hair services from colors to cuts, treatments to styling and everything in between for men, women and children.  Hair removal and professional hair care products are also available.

“Without a doubt, our passion and love for the beauty industry gets all the credit for our success.  Our industry is always changing so we really need to be on top of all the new technology and trends.  Its a lot of fun helping clients feel and  look great.”  James and MJ agreed.

HairXotica provides a unique customized experience for every individual’s needs and desires.  The team strives for the best customer satisfaction as possible.

As far as future goals, James and MJ plan on expanding on new salon services to better accommodate their clients.  They are enjoying growing their business and look forward to what the future holds for the salon.

One piece of advice the dynamic duo offer to anyone starting out in business is to make sure it is something you are really passionate about and will enjoy doing.  Your excitement will show though in your work, pride and skills.  Between the two, they bring over 35 years of experience to their clients.

The salon is in its sixth year of business.
